CHENNAI: Vaiko, MDMK general secretary, has condemned the statement, issued by the Raj Bhavan on Sunday, that the protestors, who prevented the Governor from exercising his duties, would face an imprisonment of upto seven years.

In his statement, Vaiko said, “Only in the US, the State Governors have unlimited powers. But not in India. The DMK is conducting non-violent black flag protests as part of democratic rights guaranteed by the Constitution to condemn the activities of the Governor, who violates all ethics followed by the Governors so far.”

He further said, “The enraged Governor has threatened the DMK that the protestors will be imprisoned for a maximum of seven years under IPC Section 124. I condemn the threat from the Governor. Even during the Governor’s rule in the State, there was no instance of a Governor undertaking such visits to the districts.”
