VILLUPURAM: While instances of villagers opposing TASMAC shops are common, people of a village near Tindivanam have sprung a surprise by showing their support for a TASMAC shop.

When TASMAC authorities began preparations to open a shop at Nolambur near Tindivanam in Villupuram district, people from Epakkam village, close to Nolambur, gave a petition to the Collector opposing it. But to the surprise of officials, villagers of Nolambur, including women, not only filed a petition welcoming the new TASMAC shop, they also listed benefits of having one in their village.

In the petition, the villagers say they know a TASMAC outlet will be opened in their village soon. Being daily wage labourers, a lot of them consume liquor to relieve pain caused by their work.
