Tamil Nadu transport staff to get Deepavali bonus

For settling retirement dues to staff for the period of December-March, Rs 251 crore has been allocated, MR Vijaya Baskar said.

CHENNAI: Transport Minister MR Vijaya Baskar on Friday announced 20 per cent Deepavali bonus for the employees of transport corporations. Addressing presspersons, Vijaya Baskar said transport corporation staff would get 8.33 per cent bonus and an ex-gratia of 11.67 per cent and in all, 1.44 lakh employees would benefit. “A total of Rs 216 crore has been allocated for the bonus,” he said. 

For settling retirement dues to staff for the period of December-March, Rs 251 crore has been allocated, he said. The state government is also granting subsidies worth Rs 198.6 crore to compensate the transport corporations for the excess expenditure owing to the rise in fuel prices, from January 20 to September 30, he said.

On demands for implementing the 13th wage agreement, the Minister said that increments worth `1,000 crore had been given. On reducing the number of services due to surge in fuel prices, Vijaya Baskar said that the number of services had been slashed only for routes where patronage was low.
