CHENNAI:A day after AIADMK spokesperson and Fisheries minister D Jayakumar launched a counter-attack defending award of contracts to private firms to execute highways projects in the wake of income tax (IT) raids on SPK and Company Private Limited, a senior DMK leader and former PWD minister Duraimurugan on Tuesday said his party’s government during 2006-11 had maintained transparency.
Talking to reporters here, he said the DMK government had allowed everyone to quote their bids.

“We were maintaining transparency in awarding contracts. We did not stop anyone from competing for tenders. We allowed everyone,” he said. However, there is no transparency during the present AIADMK rule, he said.

Contracts are being awarded to particular companies for pecuniary benefits, he alleged. Duraimurugan said tenders are being awarded even before the government announces the projects.
