CHENNAI: The  Madras High Court has ordered notice to the authorities concerned on a suo motu taken-up matter relating to appointment of chairpersons and members to the district-level Child Welfare Committees (CWC) in the State. The second bench of Justices Huluvadi G Ramesh and M Dhandabani on Monday ordered the notice to the Chief Secretary and the secretaries of the state Home and Social Welfare departments to file their response.

The issue relates to the gang rape of a 12-year-old child in a residential complex in Ayanavaram last week. A day after the incident, activist A Narayanan of Change India made a mention before the first bench that the police had failed to intimate the incident to the CWC even after two days.
