THOOTHUKUDI: With the nationwide lorry strike entering day six, shipment of container cargo, timber, coal and raw materials for industries have been paralysed, as nearly 4,000 lorries kept off the road in Thoothukudi. Business worth several crores has been hit.
Containers have been piling up on the premises of the 15 Container Freight Stations (CFS) in the town, while consignments are piling up at godowns across the region.
Thoothukudi Lorry Owners Association president NP Jegan told Express that 80 per cent of lorries are off the roads due to the strike. Only a few lorries transporting essential commodities like vegetables, milk and water are allowed on roads, he added.
