MADURAI: Only time can tell whether Kaala will break the box office records, but on the first day of the Rajinikanth-starrer itself it has ‘lived up to its name’.

It was a ‘black day’ for a film distributor as he was kidnapped by the fans of the superstar on Wednesday night over issues related to refund of unsold tickets meant for fan show.

The kidnapped film distributor R Selvaraj (24), a resident of Thavittu Santhai, has been working for Madurai Film Distribution since the last three years. Some six days ago, C Vignesh (23), a resident of Bibikulam, approached Selvaraj and insisted on arranging tickets for the fan show of the movie on the day of its release. Vignesh paid him a sum of `3,80,000 as well.

Selvaraj arranged some 530 tickets and returned `1,16,000 to Vignesh. Unable to sell all the tickets, Vignesh and his four friends - C Ajithkumar (19), S Saravanabava (20), S Rajesh (37), and S Arjunan (21) asked Selvaraj for a refund for the unsold tickets.

Selvaraj’s friend, S Martin Mohanraj (23), also a film distributor, residing in Shanmughanathapuram, too assured them refund. However, on Wednesday night, Vignesh and his friends gathered in front of Jeya theatre in New Natham Road, and abused and assaulted the film distributor. They later kidnapped Selvaraj in a car. Based on a complaint by Martin Mohanraj, Tallakulam police have registered a case against the five under various charges, including kidnapping. They also have arrested Vignesh, Ajithkumar, Rajesh and Saravanabava.
