NAMAKKAL: After three patients with swine flue were admitted to a private hospital in Erode, doctors from nine government hospitals across the district had been working round the clock to prevent spread of the disease.

The patients were identified as Murugan (60), a resident of Atthanur near Vennandhur, Vinodhini (35), and her daughter Samritha (10). Sources said that the recent downpour had triggered the spread of dengue and swine flu across the State, pushing the Health department officials on their toes.

Health department sources told Express that over 8,000 patients had been visiting the government hospitals and primary health centres (PHCs) daily in the past two weeks. Collector M Asia Mariam also visited every nook and corner of the district to spread awareness on steps to curb the disease.
