'No CAA in the land of Periyar': Stalin says DMK will stand by Muslims, Eelam Tamils 

DMK chief said the AIADMK extended its support to the Act in the Parliament as the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami wants to rule the state at any cost.

CHENNAI: DMK president MK Stalin has asserted when he addressed in a protest of the party was held at Kancheepuram on Tuesday that the DMK will strongly oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act as it was against the Muslims and Eelam Tamils. MK Stalin said, “BJP is working on the agenda of torturing the minority people” and he accusing the BJP that it has been poisoning the unity of the Indian society.

He further asked that why did they (BJP-led government) omit the Muslims and Eelam Tamils for getting citizenship in the act. He stated that Tamil Nadu won’t accept the Act as it was against the minorities and Eelam Tamil as the state was the soil of Periyar, a social reformer.

He further said that the BJP has brought the Citizenship Amendment Act when there is so many issues are waiting for their attention and his party won’t be a mute spectator if any harm created against the Muslims and Eelam Tamils.

He asked that if they(BJP led Union government) are ready to accept the other religions from the neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh what is the reason for ignoring only for Islamists.

“And what is the reason for ignoring the Eelam Tamils even when they belong to the Hindu religion? We,( DMK) oppose the Act as it shows discrimination against the Muslims and Eelam Tamils as the Eelam Tamils have been staying in the refugee camps for the last three decades,” he said.

He accused the ruling AIADMK of extending support to the act in the parliament as the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy wants to continue his regime at any cost by which they( AIADMK) has proved that it was the subservient regime to the BJP.

And he warned the state and central governments that the people will stand against the governments if they are not stopping the anti-minorities and anti-Tamil activities. He pointed out how in contrast a few other chief ministers have raised voice against the legislation and his party will file a separate case against the Act in the Supreme Court. 

The party staged protest in three different places in Chennai on Tuesday. DMK has also invited all parties in the state to take part in a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the future course of action on the issue. All parties friendly to DMK are expected to take part in the meeting that is being organised at the DMK headquarters in Chennai Actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan stated that he will also take part if he is invited.

This land is not anyone’s property: Subbaraj’

Chennai: Cinema director Karthik Subbaraj on Tuesday spoke against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, saying this land is not anyone’s father’s property. He is among a few other cinema stars such as Siddharth who spoke against the law. “Let’s keep India secular. Say NO to CAA. Say NO to NRC (National Register of Citizens). Say No to Police violence on students,” the ‘Petta’ director said on Twitter. Further, he said in Tamil “This land is no one’s father’s property.”
