Flyover will be built in Perundurai on Salem-Kochi NH: TN Minister Velu

ERODE:  Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports EV Velu said in Erode on Tuesday that steps will soon be taken to construct a high-level flyover on the Salem -Kochi National Highway in Perundurai.

The minister inspected the ongoing construction works on Erode Government Hospital campus. TN Housing and Urban Development Minister S Muthusamy and District Collector H Krishnanunni were present.

Speaking to reporters, Velu said, “An eight-storied building is being constructed at the cost of `67 crore in Erode Government Hospital campus. The Erode GH will be upgraded as a multi-speciality hospital, a building for which is being constructed on an area of 2,32,602 square feet. All the primary works have been completed.”

“The Pethampalayam area in Perundurai in Erode district on the Salem - Kochi National Highway is known to be a major accident spot. The public has demanded the construction of a high-level flyover in the area. We have sent a letter to the central government in this regard,” he added.

Meanwhile, the TN Highways Department Road Workers Union is staging a sit-in protest at Gobichettipalayam and has put forth a slew of demands, including promotions for road workers. Speaking about this, the minister said, “Road workers cannot claim promotion as it is not mentioned in government rules. Those involved in the protest should return to work, else strict action will be taken.”
