Coimbatore cops seek nod to quiz more suspects in POCSO case

COIMBATORE:  One and half years after a  17-year-old girl died by suicide allegedly after being sexually assaulted, Coimbatore city police on Thursday filed a petition before the  special court for POCSO cases seeking permission to investigate a few more suspects.  The defence counsel had filed a similar petition recently.

As per sources, police have filed charge sheet in the case after interrogating three suspects.  Police said the 17-year-old girl was found dead  at her house in Ukkadam on 11 November 2021. All Women Police arrested her former teacher K Mithun Chakravarthi (31) for allegedly sexually assaulting her and abetting her suicide. Police also arrested  Meera Jackson, the former principal of the school where the alleged abuse took place.

During investigation, police seized a note where the girl allegedly named three more persons of sexually assaulting her. In April 2022, police arrested two persons Mohammad Sultan (70) a resident in her neighbourhood, and Manoraj (58), the teacher’s ther. The suspects are out on bail.

On Thursday, police sought court’s permission to investigate a few more suspects in this case. The special court Judge G Kulasekaran adjourned the hearing to June 12.
