VCK to honour TN Assembly Speaker, Left leaders with party awards

The VCK will stage a demonstration in Chennai on May 15, condemning the BJP-led Manipur government and also to urge the union and Manipur governments to ensure people’s safety.

CHENNAI:  To honour people tirelessly working for the welfare of society, Chidambaram MP and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday announced awards for leaders, including Assembly Speaker M Appavu and D Raja of CPI and others, as part of the 17th edition of the party’s annual awards.

Thirumavalavan read out a list of names during a press meeting. Ambedkar Sudar award is being given to general secretary of CPI(ML) Dipankar Bhattacharya, Periyar Oli award to general secretary of CPI D Raja, Kamaraj Karthir award to Appavu, Iyotheedasar Adhavan award to former Delhi minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, Marx Mamani award to CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan, Quide Millath Pirai award to former vice-chancellor of Law University, Bengaluru, Mohan Gopal and Semmozhi Gnayiru award to Thayammal Aravanan.

The awards will be given during a function in the last week of May in Chennai. Talking about the violence in Manipur, Thirumavalavan expressed concern over the safety of  tribal people.
