CHENNAI: AAVIN, the Tamilnadu co-operative milk producers federation (TCMPF), is set to begin selling mineral water bottles at affordable prices in the next two months. It will be the second bottled water brand introduced by the TN government.

On September 15, 2013, under the then AIADMK regime, the transport department launched the Amma mineral water brand, which sold 1 litre of bottled water for Rs 10. However, sale of Amma water bottles was discontinued in 2021 as the sole production plant located in Gummidipundi malfunctioned due to depletion of groundwater.

Now, to boost revenue, Aavin has decided to package and sell 500 ml and 1000 ml water bottles under its brand. Officials said the move is aimed at generating income without raising the price of milk.
“Amma water bottles were exclusively sold at bus stands and during bus travel. The Aavin water bottle will be sold through all Aavin outlets, including at bus stands,” said an official from Aavin.
