Man hacked to death on road in Salem

SALEM:  A 30-year-old man was hacked to death in public view in Salem on Monday. City police on Tuesday detained two people and are on the lookout for one more person in connection with the case.
The deceased was identified as R Uthayasankar of Vandipettai in Arisipalayam, who was in the silver business.

According to police, on Monday evening while he was standing on the roadside near Pallapatti talking to his friend Alexpandian,  three people approached and started an argument with them. Amid the argument, the gang suddenly slashed Udayasankar with a sickle. Alexpandian too suffered injuries while attempting to prevent the attack. Though Udayasankar tried to escape, the gang chased him and hacked him.

“Onlookers admitted Udayasankar in Salem Government Hospital where he died on Monday night. Alexpandian, who suffered injuries in his hand while trying to prevent the attack, is under treatment in the same hospital. Pallapatti police three special teams to investigate the murder.  They collected CCTV footage from the area and based on this, two youths have been detained. However the reason for the murder is unknown, sources added.

“Udayasankar was suspect in a 2021 case of kidnapping a silver merchant and robbing money and silver. He was on bail in that case and was currently doing silver business. Further probe in the murder case is on,” said a police officer.

Meanwhile, in another incident, police arrested a 27-year-old woman for killing her husband in Salem.
As per police, Ramesh(33) of Jaheer Reddy Patti in Salem and his wife Manimegalai had an argument on Monday night, following which Manimegalai killed Ramesh by hitting him with a grinder stone on his head. The couple has two children. Sooramangalam police registered a case and arrested Manimegalai on Tuesday.”
