TIRUNELVELI:  A 55-year-old man, who was admitted to a private hospital in the district after the plastering of a two-tier bridge fell on his head on May 3, died on Thursday. His relatives refused to receive the body, which was sent to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TvMCH). They demanded the police to book officials and contractors along with providing compensation.

Sources said the deceased, A Velmurugan of Kokkirakulam, was riding his two-wheeler to purchase milk under the two-tier bridge of the city. "He was severely injured on his head after the bridge fell on his head. He was sent to the TvMCH initially, but was later shifted to a private hospital since his condition worsened. He was getting treatment for around 10 days and on Thursday morning, he was declared dead by the doctors. Even though the city police registered a case in this connection, officials and contractors were not added as accused persons," added sources.
