Youth assaulted by brother of ‘rich’ girlfriend dies in Coimbatore hospital

As per police, S Sakthivel (23) a construction worker, was found lying on the roadside in Vadakkukadu on Wednesday evening  with injuries.  

SALEM:  A 23-year-old youth who was attacked on Wednesday evening near Vazhapadi allegedly by the brother of an 18-year-old girl he was friends with, died in a Coimbatore hospital on Thursday night. Police arrested three persons, including the girl’s brother who allegedly killed the youth. The accused were identified as Sathishkumar (22) of Thukiyampalayam, Michael (25) of Kondalampatti and a 17-year-old boy.

As per police, S Sakthivel (23) a construction worker, was found lying on the roadside in Vadakkukadu on Wednesday evening with injuries. Local residents rescued Sakthivel and sent him to a private hospital in Salem. He was later referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, based on Sakthivel’s mother Anjali’s complaint, police registered a case under the section of an attempt to murder and formed two special teams to investigate. “Investigations revealed that Sakthivel was in love with Satishkumar’s 18-year-old younger sister. Sathishkumar come to know about this recently and warned Sakthivel. However, Sakthivel allegedly continued the relationship and also bought a mobile phone for the girl. Angered by this, Sathishkumar along with a friend Michael and a 17-year-old relative allegedly attacked Sakthivel on Wednesday with sharp weapons,” police said.

“Sakthivel, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital, died on Thursday night. Subsequently, the case was converted into a murder case. The three suspects were arrested on Friday,” a police officer said.
Superintendent of Police R Sivakumar said, “Both parties belong to the same community. But the girl’s family is affluent and did not approve of the relationship.” The minor boy was sent to a juvenile home while the two other suspects were remanded to custody.
