HYDERABAD: In recognition of the successful elimination of over 10 lakh bogus ration cards through a specialised software, the Telangana unit of National Informatics Centre (NIC) received ‘merit of order’ award at the 37th SKOCH Awards Summit held in Delhi on Friday.
The award summit was sponsored by the Union government’s several ministries, including the department of electronics and information technology and, the ministry of communications and information technology, to support the concept of ‘Minimum Government and Maximum Governance’. On behalf of the government of Telangana, commissioner of civil supplies C Partha Sarathi, chief rationing officer Padma, and National Informatics Centre retired technical director Sabita and serving technical director Shivaji received the certificate.
In all, the department was able to save 16,544 tonnes of rice after it had identified 10.13 lakh bogus cards between June and September this year, a release of the civil supplies department issued here on Sunday said.
