Two Held for Bid to Extort Rs 25 Cr from MP

HYDERABAD:Two persons were arrested on the charge of trying to extort Rs  25 crore from Chevella TRS MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy by allegedly sending threatening emails, police said on Saturday.

The MP’s son Konda Anindith Reddy lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime Police, Cyberabad, stating that on January 8, he had received emails  stating him to pay Rs 25 crore which stated that if the money was not paid, complaints would be lodged before the authorities that Vishweshwar Reddy had filed false affidavit before contesting the general elections, police said.

Based on the complaint, the cyber crime police registered a case  under relevant provisions of IPC and IT Act and took up investigation.

During the course of investigation, the Cyber Crime Police collected incriminating evidence relating to the offence and identified that the accused N Venkata Ramana Reddy, a resident of Jubilee Hills here, along with one Kumar of Bangalore, a native of Guntur district, and Rajesh, cousin of Kumar, were instrumental in threatening and trying to extort money, a release from Cyberabad police said.
