TRS Fields Deviprasad in MLC Polls

HYDERABAD:The TRS has fielded G Deviprasad as its candidate for the Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahbunagar Graduates’ Constituency MLC election even as it remained undecided on the candidate for the other Graduates MLC seat that will go to polls on March 16.

Deviprasad, who played a key role in mobilising government employees during the Telangana movement, will take on BJP’s N Ramachander Rao who is supported by the TDP. Deviprasad hails from Allipur village in Medak district and was employed with the irrigation department till his resignation a couple of days back.

He quit following an assurance from TRS chief and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that he would be fielded in the MLC polls. Rao is confident of a comfortable victory for Deviprasad and is pinning his hopes on government employees who were given 43% fitment by his government recently.

The Chief Minister, who held hectic parleys with some of his cabinet colleagues and party leaders, could not take a decision on the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal MLC seat.

The names of Nalgonda TRS district president Banda Narender Reddy was doing the rounds for the same but the TRS is also considering Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, who had unsuccessfully contested for the Nalgonda MP seat last year. A decision on the candidate will be taken in a day or two, party sources said.
