GHMC to Maintain 240 km of R and B Roads

HYDERABAD:The state government on Wednesday ordered handing over of all the roads running to a length of 240.87 km under the control of Roads and Buildings department in the city to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC).

The orders to this effect follows a decision taken on handing over all the R&B roads other than National Highway stretches that fall within the GHMC limits to the civic body.

During a meeting on Strategic Road Development Programme for Hyderabad convened by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao two months ago, it was resolved to handover the roads to GHMC for proper  maintenance. The engineer-in-chief (R&B) has submitted a proposal to hand over a total of 240. 87 km roads to the GHMC. The road network being transferred includes 32.9 km of State Highways and 208.07 km of district roads, under the jurisdiction of Superintending Engineer (R&B) Rural Circle, Balkampet.
