HYDERABAD: Two of the major promises of the state government are going to be materialised soon.
The government gave its nod for construction of more than 1,000 two-bed room houses for the poor in Warangal and simultaneously, it would give pattas to more than 10,000 poor people living in slums and basthis in Greater Hyderabad limits.
Sources in the government said the two programmes were taken up in view of the elections to GHMC and also Warangal Municipal Corporation. Moreover, the Warangal Lok Sabha seat will also go for polls as the sitting MP Kadiyam Srihari, who was elected as an MLC, will be resigning to the MP post soon.
The first initiative, two-bed room houses to the poor living in slums of Warangal town, was announced by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during his visit to Warangal. Rao, who personally witnessed the pathetic situation of houseless poor, assured to construct houses to them.
On Thursday, the government issued orders for construction of 1,384 two-bed room houses in Warangal.
The houses will be constructed in 560 sft plinth area at `900 per sft as upper limit of construction cost with G+3 pattern in Ambedkarnagar and G+2 pattern in SR Nagar in Warangal.
Each house unit will have 2 bed rooms, a kitchen, two toilets and a common hall as constructed in IDH Colony of Hyderabad. A total of 592 houses would be built in Ambedkarnagar and 792 in SR Nagar. Each house will be constructed at a cost of `5.04 lakh.
Meanwhile, the chief minister would give away house pattas to the poor as per GO 58 which is intended to regularise houses constructed within 125 sq yards of government land. Rao will handover the pattas to the eligible on Friday. According to an official release, 3,300 families in Malkajgiri constituency and 7,000 families living in NBT Nagar will be given the pattas.
Irrigation Project Land Oustees to Get More Compensation
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to move away from earlier practice of constructing colonies for those who lose lands to make way for irrigation projects. Instead, the government would compensate the land loser adequately besides offering financial support towards construction of new houses. On Thursday, he held confabulations with irrigation department officials along with minister T Harish Rao on policy to be adopted on compensation paid towards families that give away lands for irrigation projects. The CM also instructed officials to remove the cap placed on maximum land that could be acquired for irrigation projects. Stating that the officials should adopt a humanitarian approach in paying compensation to victims, he told them to set up separate authorities for every irrigation project. And the compensation be paid through them immediately, he added.
