Congress Leaders Plan Big for Rahul's Visit

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC), which was in a deep slumber for the last nine months, seems to have finally woken up ahead of the GHMC elections later this year and wants to use party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the State beginning Thursday to rejuvenate the party cadre.

The Congress leaders from the city want to put up a mega show while welcoming Rahul Gandhi to the state.

Though it was initially proposed that Rahul Gandhi’s convoy take the Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to reach Medchal and from there to Nirmal, the GHCC leaders, however, prevailed upon the party leadership to change the route so that the convoy pass through the city. ‘’The party and its leaders were lagging behind in taking up people’s related issues.

There should be a platform for the leaders to bounce back and we want to utilise Rahul’s visit for that,’’ said a senior Congress leader from the city. Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender took up the issue with the party state leadership and ensured that the convoy pass through the city limits, sources said. Welcome arches and hoardings have been put up all along the route to be taken by Rahul’s convoy.
