Rahul May Take over Reins of Cong This Year: Jairam

HYDERABAD: Terming AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi as ‘Sanjeevani’ for Congress party, former Union minister Jairam Ramesh hinted that Rahul would take over as president of the Congress in 2015. He, however, did not specify the exact date when Rahul will take over the reins of the party.

“Do not write that Rahul is taking charge tomorrow. But, he will assume charge as president of the party this year,” Ramesh told reporters here on Wednesday.

Firing a fresh salvo at the BJP-led NDA government which completes one year in office on May 26, Jairam Ramesh alleged that Modi betrayed all sections of people. After taking over as the PM last year, Modi had promised maximum governance and minimum government, Ramesh said adding that “one year later we see maximum arrogance and one man government.”

“The second slogan of Modi is ‘Skill India.’ but after one year it is ‘Kill India’ as Modi resorted to killing of Parliament, judiciary and civil society, Jairam Ramesh said.

‘’One year ago, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government took office. One year later we have MNDA -- Modi’s Non-Democratic Alliance. One year ago Modi promised ‘Selfless government’, but after one year we see not selfless governmentbut a ‘selfie’ Prime Minister,” he alleged

Modi promised turnaround of Indian economy, but it became a government of several U-turns, Jairam alleged. “Modi opposed introduction of GST and Indo-US N-deal. But approved them same as PM.

Stating that these were the five realities of the last one year of Modi government, he said the PM in the last one year has also had to eat his own words. But, the Congress party would play the role of a constructive Opposition. “Congress will not play obstructive or destructive politics,” Jairam said.
