HYDERABAD:Telangana state excise department on Saturday declared that 5,629 villages in 116 mandals of the state as illicit liquor-free areas.
An official statement issued by the Excise department said that the prohibition and excise department launched a systematic fight against the menace of illicitly distilled liquor with a goal to declare Telangana as ID-free state. The department set up a control room in June and so far 7,170 complaints were received. Officials conducted raids at various places from October 1 to 16 and registered 9,431 cases against 40,861 persons.
So far 32 persons were detained under PD Act for sale of illicit liquor. As a precautionary measure bind over cases were registered against 7,360 persons involved in ID trade. The goal is to declare the entire state as ID-free state, the release said.
