EC Registers Pawan's Jana Sena Sans Symbol

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) on Wednesday registered actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party as an authorised political party. A notification would be issued by the TSEC in this regard on Thursday.

However, the Jana Sena Party is a registered political party without a reserved symbol. The registration shall not entitle the party for reservation of any exclusive symbol for it.

Sources said that the party candidates will be entitled to preferential treatment over independent candidates in allotment of free symbols, the commission said. With the registration, the party can now field candidates for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls.

Pawan Kalyan launched his party before the Assembly elections last year. However, the party was not registered with the State Election Commission. As of now, there are close to 70 political parties registered with the Telangana State Election Commission, besides recognised national parties like BJP, Congress and regional parties like TRS and TDP.
