HYDERABAD: Setting the ball rolling for the creation of new districts in the state, the government on Monday constituted a committee to look into carving new districts. Officials said around 14 new districts would be carved out from the existing ones.
The state government constituted the committee of secretaries under the chairmanship of chief secretary Rajiv Sharma to give recommendations on reorganisation of administrative units which include districts, revenue divisions and revenue mandals.
The state cabinet gave its nod recently on creation of new districts in the state. Accordingly the committee for reorganisation has been constituted. According to sources, the number of new districts would be 14 and the total number of districts in the state would go up to 24 after the reorganisation. The entire process of creating new districts is expected to be completed in 9 to 12 months time.
Though, the density of population in Hyderabad district is highest than other districts, it remains to be seen whether the state government will carve out a new district form the existing Hyderabad district.
Chief Secretary will be the chairman of the committee, principal secretaries of revenue, municipal administration and urban development and panchayat raj and rural development will be the members of the committee.
The principal commissioner for land administration will be the convenor.
