SCCL, NTPC staff found showing false claims to evade IT

KARIMNAGAR: Some of the employees of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and NTPC in Ramagundam claimed bogus deductions to evade Income Tax (IT) in the 2015-16 financial year.  IT officials of the joint commissioner office, Karimnagar,  have found these false claims by these employees.

K Ranga Rao, the joint commissioner of  Income Tax, Karimnagar,  told Express in an exclusive interview that such fraudulent claims were found among the workers of the two companies in Mancherial, Srirampur and Godavarikhani coal belt area. '' To avoid tax these employees have made false claims of deductions,''  he said.

In Mancherial IT officials have served notices to those employees who made false claims.

He further said that the IT department would prosecute tax evaders, if necessary and impose 300 percent fine against them and stringent action would be taken against them. The IT department is taking a very serious view of the matter, the joint commissioner said.   

In the joint commissioner of income tax jurisdiction, there has been an increase of about 15 percent in taxpayers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district and old Mancherial revenue division (Mancherial and Adilabad districts). 

In 2014-15 financial year about 92,000 employees and business establishments filed their Income Tax Assessments, while in 2015-16 taxpayers registered was 1.06 lakh.  

'' It is a good sign and the department is expecting that the figure would double or triple coming the financial year 2016-17,'' the joint commissioner said.
