NIC Moots Biometric System for Pensioners in Telangana

NIZAMABAD:  Very soon, pensioners are going to be relieved from the practice of proving themselves alive every six months in respective treasury offices.

National Informatics Centre (NIC) is advising the state government’s finance department to implement biometric system in all its treasury offices with technical assistance from NIC district units. As per the state government’s rules and regulations, a pensioner has to submit his or her life certificate every six months with a self-declaration attested by a gazetted officer. This system is being implemented in social security pensions like Aasara also. However, it was becoming inconvenient and difficult for the pensioners to submit life certificate every six months.

NIC is already implementing biometric system for Central government employees including ex-service men and retired CRPF personnel in providing pensions. NIC has connectivity with Aadhaar headquarters and a pensioner has to use the biometric device and the pensioner’s details will be sent to the respective department which can release pension amount to the pensioner’s bank account.
