“Telangana has a tree cover of 24 per cent of the total area. National forest policy envisages a minimum of 33 per cent of the total geographical are under forest or tree cover to maintain environmental stability and ecological balance. Therefore we are focusing on increasing the tree cover by taking up Haritha Haaram in a big way. We have decided to plant 40 crore saplings this year. However, 41 crore saplings have already been readied,” forest minister Jogu Ramanna said here on Friday. “Not just the state government officials, but even public representatives and people from all walks of life should participate in the programme,” he said.
