KARIMNAGAR: Come summer, the number of fire accidents witness a rise and fire service personnel have to toil hard despite several odds. One such problem is the non-availability of water and to overcome this, the department has decided to consume less water by using mist pumps instead of the conventional hose pipes. There are nine fire stations in the district. Non-availability of water has turned into a major concern for fire stations as the water tanks have already dried up and borewells too are getting exhausted. “Summer is a hard time for us but we are going with advanced technologies like using mist pumps,” said district fire officer T Purnachander.
Every fire station has a fire engine-cum-tank with 4,500 litres capacity. The mist vehicle will be made available to rush immediately in case of an emergency. In addition, a new bullet vehicle with 18 litres capacity which has mist pumps installed on it, is ready for operations at the fire stations in Karimnagar.
He told that a proposal to procure 600 litres capacity of mist vehicles has been sent to the government.
