Women stage road blockade in Toopran demanding water

SANGAREDDY: Villagers, with women participating in large numbers, blocked the highway near mandal praja parishad office at Toopran mandal headquarters on Thursday demanding the government to solve their drinking water crisis.

The villagers hailing from Venkatapur Agraharam are facing drinking water problem for the past one week as the bore from which they were getting water was under repair.

Venkatapur Agraharam village under Ghanapur panchayat limits of Toopran mandal falls under Gajwel constituency represented by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Authorities took an agriculture bore on lease for supply of drinking water. With the bore getting dysfunctional, the villagers represented the matter to the sarpanch and panchayat secretary, who did not take any steps to get the bore repaired.

Fed up with this, the villagers and women in large numbers with empty pots blocked the highway for more than half-an-hour leading to disruption of traffic for sometime.

The protesting villagers withdrew the road blockade only after the MPDO, Srinivas Rao assured to visit the village on Friday and restore the water supply.
