Forest dept to lay traps for capturing leopard

NIZAMABAD : Forest department officials have decided to arrange for a special bone to catch a leopard which has been terrorising people in and around Tallaramadugu village in Srikonda mandal of Nizamabad district.

Officials took the decision following many complaints from villagers. Forest officials visited the village on Monday and inspected several areas including the area where the wild cat entered a cattle shed and killed a goat recently.

The team collected pug marks of the animal. They suspect that the leopard has made the nearby hillocks its habitat.

“Due to water problem, the leapord might have strayed into the village,” a forest department official told Express.

They informed the situation to higher officials and submitted a preliminary report. Kamareddy Divisional Forest Officer M Joji said they have alerted the villagers and advised them to take preventive steps.

Villagers said that the leopard, along with its two cubs, last entered the hamlet on Sunday but left after the frightened villagers started yelling and alerting others.
