Advocate attempts suicide

HYDERABAD: Protesting against suspension of two judges, another advocate in the city attempted suicide on Tuesday.

Gampa Venkateswarlu tried to end his life by consuming sleeping pills at the chambers of Nampally Metropolitan Session Judge T Rajani on Tuesday morning. He was immediately rushed to Medwin Hospital in Abids by his colleagues. His condition was said to be stable and was discharged in an hour.

Earlier in the day, advocates and judicial officers raised slogans outside the court premises in protest against suspension of president of Telangana Judges' Association K Ravinder Reddy and secretary Varaprasad by the Hyderabad High Court. They were  taken away by the police.

K Vinod Kumar, representing advocates association for social justice and rural development said “Andhra employees in the Secretariat are being shifted to their capital and why is there a delay in bifurcation of the High Court. Telangana courts should have only our advocates and judges. We will continue our protest till separate HC is created.” Advocates and judicial officers at the Nampally criminal courts boycotted duties between 10.30 a.m and 12.30 pm.
