KARIMNAGAR: A 13-year-old boy who has a condition of having both male and female reproductive organs (hermaphroditism), was treated in the district on Friday. One uterus and two ovaries were surgically removed at People’s Hospital in Mustabad.
Senior gynecologist and laparoscopic surgeon Dr Chintoju Shankar, who performed the surgery, said the patient Kurra Venu’s parents approached the doctor with complaint that he had severe stomach ache. An ultrasound revealed he had both male and female organs.
“As per the boy and his parents’ wish, I removed the female organs by performing a surgery which lasted an hour,” Dr Shankar told.
