Chaotic scenes in Telangana State Assembly; special session adjourned in 10 minutes

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Assembly witnessed acrimonious scenes with the Opposition Congress MLAs rushing to the well of the House, raising slogans against the TRS government accusing it of neglecting farmers.

The Congress members tore papers and threw them towards the Speaker's chair.

The House met on Sunday to pass amendments to the State government's Land Acquisition Bill as proposed by the Centre. Opposition Congress said it is not opposed to the amendments to the Bill but wanted the House to discuss the plight of farmers in the State. The Congress MLAs displayed placards and rose to their feet as soon as the House convened.

As the revenue minister went ahead with the Bill, the Congress members, including N Uttam Kumar Reddy and T Jeevan Reddy, rushed to the podium but marshals stopped them. The women MLAs too were stopped by marshals when they tried to move towards Speaker's chair.

Amid the pandemonium, Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary passed the Bill and the special session, convened to pass the amendments, was concluded within 10 minutes.
