PIL filed against release of funds to MLAs, Ministers

A PIL was filed in the Hyderabad High Court with a plea to declare the action of the Telangana government in releasing Rs 700 crore without treasury control audit and inspection.

HYDERABAD: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition was filed in the Hyderabad High Court with a plea to declare the action of the Telangana government in releasing Rs 700 crore as Constituency Development Programme (CDP) to MLAs and MLCs and as Special Development Fund (SDF) to ministers without treasury control audit and inspection by any authority, as illegal.

Petitioner the Forum for Good Governance, a non-profit organization of the city represented by its secretary M Padmanabha Reddy, submitted that there is no need of CDP funds, which are to be spent for drinking water and for repairs to irrigation tanks and canals and other needs, with the implementation of Mission Bhagiratha (drinking water project) and Mission Kakatiya (renovation of tanks). The state government is releasing `3 crore annually as CDP to every MLA and MLC ie. a total of `480 crore per annum which is not reflected either in the budgets.
