HC wants state to tell it how much time it needs to constitute debt relief commission

At present, the farmers are at great loss in the absence of such a commission and mere bringing an enactment is not sufficient, it has to be implemented.

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday wanted the Telangana government to inform the court by next Monday about the time it requires to constitute the “State Commission for Debt Relief (small farmers, agricultural labourers and rural artisans)” which is mandatory as per rules. The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by N Indrasena Reddy, BJP leader, seeking a direction to Telangana government to constitute the said commission forthwith.

Petitioner’s counsel Balaji earlier submitted that the said state-level commission provides an opportunity to the farming community to approach the commission with their grievances and that the Commission has got the power to pass awards after adjudication and recommends appropriate measures for redressal of their grievances who are in dire need of financial or any other assistance from the government. At present, the farmers are at great loss in the absence of such a commission and mere bringing an enactment is not sufficient, it has to be implemented. When the matter came up for hearing, the bench asked state to tell by Monday about the time required to constitute the above commission, and adjourned the case.
