Number of dropouts on rise with rationalisation of schools in Kumarambheem district of Telangana

Following rationalisation of schools in the district, the number of dropouts have increased in Kumarambheem district.

KUMRAMBHEEM: Following rationalisation of schools in the district, the number of dropouts have increased in Kumarambheem district. The strength in schools have fallen drastically this year compared to the last year. The fact came to light during the visit of district collector M Champalal to the schools. According to the official reports, 93,603 students were studying in schools during the academic year in 2016-17, however, the number has come down to 81,875 in the current academic year.

After rationalisation of school, especially the primary schools strength has drastically reduced this academic year compared to the  last year. The strength  of the students in primary schools in the last academic year was 52,788. However, the strength has reduced to 30,165 at present. Meanwhile, in upper primary school the strength has come down from 19,404 to 16,173.

Over 150 primary school were closed down as part of rationalisation in the district. The students were shifted to the nearby schools. With lack of inspection by officials, the number of dropouts has been increasing.  

Moreover, tribals have been facing problems with their children being shifted from one school to the other. For instance, Dharmaguda village students were shifted to Pittabongaram school which lacks proper road.
Prof Jayshankar Badi Batta Programme identifies dropouts and admits them to the schools. This year  508 dropouts were identifed and admitted to KGBV and regular schools.
