Headmaster suspended for ‘sexually harassing’14 students in Nalgonda

Sources said the students wrote a letter about the behaviour of the headmaster and handed it over to a mandal-level education department.

NALGONDA: In yet another incident of a school teacher misbehaving with the wards, the headmaster of a zilla parishad school in Nalgonda district allegedly sexually harassed nearly 14 girl students. The girls, who underwent the harassment for nearly three months, gathered courage and complained to the local education officials who, after an inquiry, suspended the headmaster. The incident took place at Anmula village in Haliya mandal in the district.

According to information reaching here, 14 girls, students o Classes 8 and 9, were being sexually harassed by the school headmaster G Krishna Murthy. The allegation is that Krishna Murthy was touching the victims inappropriately. Sources said the students wrote a letter about the behaviour of the headmaster and handed it over to a mandal-level education department officer who visited the school recently. The officer took up the issue with the district educational officer (DEO) who initiated a probe into the headmaster’s misbehaviour.

After a preliminary inquiry, district collector Gaurav Uppal issued orders, suspending the headmaster. Meanwhile, Krishna Murthy alleged that he was made a scapegoat by a few teachers of the school who bore a grudge against him. “he performance of the school improved after I took charge as the headmaster. I insisted that the teachers come on time which did not go well with some teachers who conspired against me and made the students to lodge the complaint,’’ he alleged.
