WARANGAL: The district administration is making all out efforts to make the International Kite Festival, being held for the first time in the city, a huge success. The kite festival will be held at Arts and Science College Grounds in Hanamkonda on January 17.

Kite fliers from 31 nations are expected to take part in the festival. Eleven expert kite fliers from the country will also take part in the event. The district administration is making elaborate arrangements to make the ‘Kite-2017’ a huge success.

Warangal(urban) collector Amrapali Kata wants the kite festival to reflect the culture and tradition of Kakatiya dynasty. During a review meeting, she directed officials to organise the event in such a way that it becomes a memorial event for the people of the city.
The organisers are even planning to put up around 30 stalls, including handicrafts, handlooms, food courts and others at the venue.

“This is the first time that Warangal is hosting a kite fete of international standards and we want to make it successful at any cost. We are making elaborate arrangements. We want people to remember it for long time,” said a senior official of district tourism department.

The tourism department is planning to utilise the kite festival to promote tourism spots of the district.
“This is a great opportunity to promote all the popular tourism spots of the district. We have a lot of places which have the potential to become a tourism spot. We would be promoting those places during the festival,” the official said.

As a prelude to the kite festival, the district administration is organising a heritage walk on Monday. Hundreds of people, especially prominent citizens of the city, sports personalities,  senior officials, kite lovers, youth and students are expected to take part in the heritage walk. The district administration is giving wide publicity to the mega event. A large number of people from nook and corner of the erstwhile Warangal district are expected to take part in the festival.
City police is making elaborate security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. A large contingent of security personnel would be deployed in and around the kite festival venue.
