Registered Medical Practitioner held for botched abortion, Telangana

MAHABUBABAD : A 25-year-old tribal woman was admitted to a private hospital in Mahabubabad town in a serious condition after a botched abortion on July 10, 2017. Her pregnancy was terminated by a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP).

According to sources, L Parvathi of Narasimram village already had a daughter and conceived for the second time. Since her husband Ramesh wanted a male child this time, he got sex determination test done and when it was found that it is a baby girl, he contacted RMP M Venkanna to terminate the pregnancy.

The RMP gave medicine and after a few hours her condition deteriorated and on the advice of the RMP, she was shifted to a private hospital in Mahabubabad.Police took the RMP into custody for questioning during which he reportedly admitted that he conducted the abortion.

However, the woman claims that miscarriage took place as she slipped in the fields. The RMP gave her medicine and when there was no improvement, she was taken to the hospital.

It’s only in last month that police raided Swetha Nursing Home and caught a doctor red-handed while conducting sex-determination tests in Kuravi.
