Misbehaviour with collector: IPS Charu Sinha to lead probe

She was appointed after Telangana State IAS Officers’ Institute asked the chief secretary to entrust the job to a lady officer.

HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer Charu Sinha is likely to conduct a probe into the incident where Mahabubabad MLA B Shankar Naik allegedly misbehaved with district collector Preeti Meena. Two days after the incident, which raked up a political controversy and also furore among the IAS fraternity, the TS IAS Officers’ Institute met chief secretary SP Singh and submitted their charter of demands. The officers were led by Institute President BP Acharya.

“Since the incident involves the offence of outraging the modesty of women, no less than the collector, the investigation of the offence must be entrusted to a senior lady IPS officer, not below the rank of an IG,” one of the resolution said. The Institute met on Thursday night. The state government obliged to the request, sources said.

Meanwhile, the government will constitute a three-member senior IAS officers’ Committee to coordinate with the sub-junior IAS officers who were appointed as district collectors.
According to the memorandum submitted by Acharya along with Preeti Meena, the Institute requested the government to put in place an institutional mechanism whereby such incidents are not repeated and that the grievances were formally addressed.

Further, the Institute resolved to provide all necessary support including legal assistance to Preeti Meena, if required.Couple of days back, Shankar Naik allegedly misbehaved with Preeti Meena during the launch of Haritha Haaram plantation drive in Mahabubabad district headquarters. Based on a complaint by the collector, Mahabubabad police has already registered cases against the MLA. The MLA had been arrested and released on bail.

TDP working president A Revanth Reddy called on chief secretary SP Singh and urged him to register case against MLA Shankar Naik under Nirbhaya Act.

IFS Association condemns the act
Hyderabad: Joining chorus with IAS fraternity, the IFS Association TS Chapter in its emergency meeting held on Friday, strongly condemned the incident of misbehaviour by Mahabubabad MLA B Shankar Naik with lady IAS officer and collector Mahbubabad Dr Preeti Meena. They resolved to express its strong solidarity with the member of the service.
