HYDERABAD: Besides urging prime minister Narendra Modi to take steps to enhance the numerical strength of the State Assembly from 119 to 153 in accordance with the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has requested Modi to hand over around 55 acres of land of Bison Polo grounds here for the construction of a new secretariat building.

Rao called on Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed the Bison Polo grounds issue with him. The state government had already sent a proposal to the ministry of defence for handing over the land to the state.

The state government offered alternative lands to the defence outside the city. Though the file on Bison Polo grounds is pending with the Defence Ministry, the chief minister wanted the intervention of the prime minister.

Rao also wanted Modi to expedite the process of raising the number of Assembly seats in AP and TS. Rao had taken up the issue with home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.

Rao also apprised Modi of pending issues under AP Reorganisation Act such as bifurcation of High Court. But it was not clear whether Rao raised the Muslim reservation issue with the prime minister. Rao called on Union finance minister Arun Jaitley later and sought an increase in FRBM limit to enable Telangana borrow more for welfare and developmental activities.
