MANCHERIAL: In a shocking incident, a teenager allegedly set his father ablaze in Bellampally on Monday night after being admonished for not concentrating on studies. The father, who had suffered severe burns, was admitted to the Mancherial area hospital.
The 17-year-old was pursuing polytechnic course. On Monday, his father reprimanded him for not focusing on studies. Added to this, the father also had a tiff with his wife on that day and the boy tried to intervene, police said.
The father asked him not to intervene in unnecessary issues but focus on his studies. Enraged by his father’s rebuke, he planned to eliminate him. He brought petrol from a bunk in the evening and, when his father was asleep, poured it on the unsuspecting father and set him afire, police said.
Hearing the man’s screams, other members of the family and neighbours rushed in to put out the fire and shifted him to hospital.
Police registered a case of ‘attempt to murder’ against the boy and are investigating.
