HYDERABAD: “This just-concluded Yasangi (Rabi) crop season has recorded the highest purchase of agricultural produce from farmers at the minimum support price in the state’s history,” commissioner of civil supplies CV Anand said here on Tuesday.
Farmers have been paid online for paddy purchased on record scale. The Civil Supplies Corporation targeted to procure 39 lakh tonnes of paddy and has, till now, bought 36.63 lakh tonnes and paid Rs 5,529 crore to farmers.
The state government allotted the required funds to the corporation. As it gave surety for ` 2,000 crore initially and for another ` 1,000 crore afterwards, farmers would be paid their dues without any problem, Anand said.
It is for the first time in Telangana that farmers are paid online to avoid the involvement of middlemen.
