HYDERABAD: Stark disparity exists among districts in Telangana as only a few districts continue have reaped the benefits of industrialisation. Industrial development is still concentrated around Hyderabad, with Rangareddy and Medak districts having about 50 per cent of all the manufacturing units in state.

This was revealed in the document ‘TS-iPASS and Industrial Growth of Telangna State’ released by the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) on Tuesday.

Overall, FTAPCCI said that since introduction of TS-iPASS 3,451 new industries have sprung up in Telangana, bringing investments worth `58,341 crore, providing 2,20,758 jobs. However, comparing the figures of industrial growth in Telangana since 2010-12 (before formation of Telangana) to 2015-17, it is seen that industrialisation is skewed among the old TS districts.

The only districts that have seen considerable increase in their share of industrial units after formation of Telangana are Medak, where it increased from 7 pc to 14 pc, and Karimnagar where it increased from 5 pc to 12 pc.

There is a meagre increase in other districts. Rather, in the districts of Khmmam and Mahbubnagar the share of industrial units fell by 1 pc. In Nizamabad there has been no change at all.

Karimnagar seems to have benefited the most after AP’s bifurcation, with investments increasing from 2 pc before to 20 pc now. Investments in Adilabad also increased from 5 pc to 11 pc and Warangal saw a small rise from 2 pc to 6 pc.

However, investments fell in all the other districts. RR and Medak districts still hold 39 pc of all the investments in the the State. Industries in RR district continue to provide more than half of the jobs in the state. Although investment and share of indutrial units went down in RR district in the new state, there has been an increase in employment from 46 pc in 2010-12 to 57 pc in 2015-17.

The share of jobs provided in the state increased only in Mahbubnagar and has seen either fell or stagnated in the other districts.

RR district way ahead
RR district, which is home to the IT and ITeS industry in Telangana, provides more jobs than the rest of the districts combined. While RR topped by providing 1,25,898 jobs from 2015-17, Medak, which has many pharmaceutical companies, came a distant second by providing 35,313 jobs.

IT and ITeS has proved to be largest provider of jobs with 45,900, followed by food processing industry with 31,889 jobs. Pharmaceuticals and chemicals industry created 26,993 jobs.
