SANGAREDDY: Vemulaghat farmers, who appear to be standing in the way of the State government’s land acquisition for the controversial Mallanna Sagar project, have found new ways to expand their ongoing protests seeking fair compensation.Despite the continuous pressure exerted by the government, coupled with the Centre’s act of granting permissions for Kaleshwaram Project, under which Mallanna Sagar falls, the farmers are not ready to give up their fight.

The villagers, who have discussed their agitation on electronic and print media as well as social media platforms so far, have composed a song on the agitation. It’s creating ripples on messaging app WhatsApp and social networking sites like Facebook.The song titled, “Dopidi Prabhuthvam Pai Garjistunna Vemulaghat,” (Vemulaghat is roaring at the looting government) was sung by Erravelli Srinivas, an oustee from Vemulaghat. It was recorded in Vaishnavi Recording Centre at Siddipet.

There is a good response for the song not only from the local farmers but also netizens.Srinivas in the song lauded the villagers for their brave and desperate fight against the government. He explained the “fraud” being done by the government on Vemulaghat farmers and collective resistance of the villagers. On behalf of his village, he vowed to fight back.

Vemulaghat villagers, who have created a record by undertaking relay hunger strikes for more than 500 days, are also discussing on Whatsapp the dissatisfaction of various groups with the government.
