HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister (Education) K Srihari warned the managements of corporate colleges to immediately stop admission process for next academic year with immediate effect. It may be mentioned here that several colleges have already begun the process. At a meeting with managements of private colleges on Tuesday, Srihari said they had specific information that some junior colleges have started the admission process for 2018-19 academic year. “If the colleges start admissions now, their recognition will be cancelled and cases will be registered against managements,” he said.
Srihari said it was unfortunate that several students were committing suicides due to extreme academic pressure. “The state government is considering these cases seriously,” he said. The Education department has already conducted a meeting in this regard on October 17. Later, the officials of Intermediate Board too conducted inspections. The Board issued notices to the unauthorised hostels at colleges.
During inspections, the Board found that most of the colleges were not following the academic calendar issued by it. Also, the toilets, laboratories and other basic facilities were not adequate as per the students’ strength.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the managements wanted more time to implement the guidelines issued by the Board. “We have decided to give more time to managements, keeping in mind the future of students,” Srihari said.
The deputy CM also hinted that the state government was planning to bring reforms in the Intermediate examination pattern. The Intermediate syllabus would be in tune with the syllabus of all India examinations like JEE, IIT, NEET and other examinations. He also assured to consider the request from parents to conduct Intermediate examination twice a year, like semester system.
