Engineering graduation eligibility for Ed CET notified in Telangana Gazette

The amendment to admission procedure for common entrance test that allows engineering graduates to apply for teaching posts found its way into Telangana Gazette on Friday.

HYDERABAD: The amendment to admission procedure for common entrance test that allows engineering graduates to apply for teaching posts found its way into Telangana Gazette on Friday. While the amendment was hailed for opening up employment opportunities for unemployed or under-employed engineering graduates, it is unlikely to have any positive impact on quality of teaching. Though National Council for Teacher Education permitted engineering graduates for BEd courses last year, an amendment to this effect was made on Aug 24 2017.

N Narayana, president of United Teachers Federation, said that since teaching would be their Plan B or C, passion teaching profession requires could be missing in these candidates. “Since their first ambition will be to become an engineer, one can’t expect a positive impact on quality of teaching,” he said. Students who secured 50 pc marks in Bachelors or Masters degree or 55 pc aggregate marks in engineering or technology degrees are eligible.
