Another Karimnagar man falls prey to clinical trials in Hyderabad

Chiluveri Ashok Kumar of Kothapalli villag suffered serious health issues after undergoing clinical drug trial conducted by a Bengaluru-based pharma company in Hyderabad.

KARIMNAGAR:  Mother of 27-year-old Chiluveri Ashok Kumar of Kothapalli village near Jammikunta town of Karimnagar distict, who suffered serious health issues after undergoing clinical drug trial conducted by a Bengaluru-based pharma company in Hyderabad recently, lodged a complaint against the company with Jammikunta police on Tuesday.

It may be recalled that clinical drug trial claimed the life of a person in Nagampeta village in June. Vangara Nagaraju (39) died due to complications after clinical drug trials in Bengaluru. 
According to sources, Ashok Kumar stopped graduation due to poor financial condition of his family. 
He worked as sales executive in the circulation wing of a daily. In the meantime, he went to Hyderabad and came in contact with people who were part of clinical trials of the pharma company. 
About two months ago he returned to his native village and started behaving abnormally. He even tried to kill his mother.

His condition came to light when he tried to destroy the agreement documents signed with the company. However, his sister managed to retrieve a few of them and when she went through the documents she was shocked to learn that her brother was part of a clinical trial.Meanwhile, Ashok’s mother took him to a Darga in Jammikunta and Arepalli in Warangal.

When his brothers Shyam Kumar and Kishore Kumar in Warangal enquired about his health condition, he told them the entire story how the laboratory conducted clinical trails on him for two months. They took the help of a local social activist Shaik Shabir Ali and visited Nagampet to meet the kin of Nagaraju who died in June after clinical trails. They found that it was the same company which conducted trials on Ashok. Jammikunta CI P Prasanth Reddy told his family members that they would take local doctors’ suggestion and approach court for further action.
